Daniel’s Story

Categories: Caregiving Moments

In August 2021, Amy Schatz’s father passed away while on our care in the Hospice Home. Amy was kind enough to share her story with us; keep reading to hear about her experience with Transitions LifeCare.

Daniel Price in Navy Uniform

“My father, Daniel Price, was in Transitions HospiceCare from August 14th until he passed late August 24th. Every Transitions LifeCare employee we met from the doctor at WakeMed Cary to the nurse, Larry, who called to tell me of his passing were wonderful. Our social worker, Kaity, arranged a little veteran’s framed certificate and flag in his room. One nurse, Michelle, was extra kind and helpful. Liz, the chaplain, was also wonderful! She visited my dad when we were unable to be there and shared prayers, blessings, and music with him. The morning of the day he passed, I asked for another prayer. She brought up his military service with the Navy when dad had to ask ‘permission’ to do much of anything, then spoke directly to dad saying something comforting about how he had ‘permission’ to go. Dad passed at a bit past 11:30pm that night. Even at that late hour, the staff gave him military honors by draping him with a flag and stood silently as he was wheeled out. It’s a peaceful moment I will never forget.”
