Drs. Patel and Thompson Earn Fellow Status

Laura Patel, MD and Christopher Thompson, MD have earned the designation Fellow of the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine. The Academy is the professional organization for physicians who care for patients with serious illness.
Dr. Patel is Chief Medical Officer at Transitions LifeCare. She received her medical degree from the University of Minnesota Twin Cities. Patel completed her residency in internal medicine and fellowship in geriatrics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine.
Dr. Thompson is a hospice and palliative medicine physician at Transitions LifeCare. He received his medical degree from Xavier University School of Medicine. Thompson completed his family medicine residency at Columbus Regional Medical Center and fellowship in hospice and palliative medicine at Mercer University School of Medicine.
Patel and Thompson will receive the designation during the closing plenary session at the Annual Assembly of Hospice and Palliative Care in San Diego, California. The March 21, 2020, event will include more than 3,000 colleagues working in the field of hospice and palliative care.
The Fellow of the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine (FAAHPM) status is the highest honor that can be bestowed upon a physician member. Patel and Thompson have demonstrated a significant commitment to the field of hospice and palliative medicine.
