I began my adventure with Transitions LifeCare as an office volunteer.  It was rewarding, but I felt like I could do more. I wasn’t convinced I could do family support so I was looking for other opportunities.  I was asked if I would be willing to help with the Care Notes. The Bereavement Department sends these out monthly and, during this particular month, they were short-handed due to summer vacations.

Little did I know what I was getting into!  The work is repetitive and not very engaging (lots of collating and envelope stuffing) but the fellowship is amazing.  This group is outgoing, welcoming, and friendly. Each month there are stories, catching up with family exploits, jokes, travel experiences, and book and movie recommendations.  Rarely do I leave this monthly gathering without two or three recommendations.  This month it was JoJo Moyes Me Before You and the new movie Gone Girl.  Next month we are probably all looking forward to hearing about a cruise to Amsterdam, Prague, and Budapest.

I feel I have connected more with the organization and developed friendships that continue to multiply the rewards of volunteering.
